Staff Spotlight – Mike Sandifer

Our new Maintenance Engineer Mike Sandifer has switched repairing Apache helicopters for MIM machinery after joining CMG.

Mike joined the team in July, having previously served in the RAF before taking on a job maintaining Army helicopters at Wattisham Airfield.

His military precision has already proven a real benefit to the team, ensuring our machinery runs like clockwork to ensure maximum efficiency.

Mike said: “I’ve really enjoyed it so far. There’s been lots to learn as the machinery we use here is quite different to what I’m used to.

“I had always wanted to join the military, but thought getting into the engineering side of things would give me more career prospects.

“After leaving the air force I ended up as a mechanic at Wattisham, fixing up the aircraft there. You could say I feel right at home at Bentwaters!”

Mike added that learning the science behind the tools we use at CMG has helped fuel his passion for his trade.

He said: “Here at CMG we’ve got some incredible bits of kit to work on. As an engineer you love to work out how different types of machinery work, so it’s been really enjoyable for me.

“Obviously one of my main tasks is repairing any machines that have broken down, although a bigger and more exciting part of my role is putting new systems in place to keep them running smoothly.”

Mike’s favourite part of the job however has been getting to know his new team – adding how impressed he is by the talent we have on offer.

He said: “The people here are great. After my first chat with Rachel I could tell how nice a team there is here at CMG.

“I’m very happy to be here.”
