Our Senior Toolmaker, Martin Waters, is celebrating an incredible 25 years with the company.
Martin first joined us in the late 1990s, before we had entered the MIM market and rebranded to CMG Technologies in 2013.
He said the company has changed a lot since he first joined.
“It was called Europlus at the time and we were primarily a fibreoptics company – but we had just identified the potential of metal injection moulding,” he said.
“But the one thing that hasn’t changed is it being a great place to work.
“The best thing about the business is the people – there is so much experience in the team and you are trusted to use that experience to make your own decisions.
“I still enjoy coming to work every day.”
Martin added the challenges the role offers means he always looks forward to coming to work – and encouraged young people looking for a career to consider joining the sector.
He said: “Times have changed in that a lot of the tools used in the trade now come from China. People don’t look at engineering the same way nowadays.
“I’ve always been someone who likes working with his hands. I like to get stuck in, get my hands dirty and see the end result.
“Every day is a challenge in a job like this, whether that’s crafting new tools, maintaining existing ones or repairing them.
“I would love to see the government introduce something similar to the YTS scheme that promotes jobs like mine or indeed anything in engineering. It really is a great industry to work in.”
Our Managing Director, Rachel added: “CMG would not be the booming business it is today were it not for the hard work of people like Martin.
“A familiar face for more than two decades, everyone knows they can turn to him for support and tap into the enviable expertise and experience he has.
“He is a testament to everything great about British engineering.
“Just like my father and other directors before me, I am incredibly proud to have him in the team.”
