CMG celebrates 50 years at forefront of technology and engineering

The CMG team are celebrating a half century of flying the flag for British engineering after marking our 50th birthday.

Our business has come a long way from our early beginnings as a fibre optic specialist in 1975 – eventually establishing ourselves at the UK’s premier metal injection moulding (MIM) specialist in the early 2000s.

That journey has seen us trade under names including Europlus and Egide UK, before we were renamed after the team behind our 2013 management buyout – Chris Conway, Dr Phil Marsh and Rachel Garrett.

Today we stand proud as a champion of British engineering and serve a wide range of clients around the world.

Rachel, who is Chris Conway’s daughter, joined the business in 2004 and now serves as our Managing Director.

She said: “Today is both a proud moment and significant achievement for our business and everyone who has been involved in its journey over the years.

“Like with every business, we have been on a rollercoaster through the years but have always been lucky to have an incredible team that provides us both stability and innovation to move forward.”

We have provided MIM and 3D printing solutions for numerous high-profile clients over the years, having made headlines in the Covid-19 pandemic for our crucial role in producing parts for ventilators.

We have also championed the four-day week under Rachel’s leadership, earning national plaudits as an early pioneer for promoting a healthier work-life balance that has seen our profits soar.

In 2023 we became a part of the INDO-MIM group, headed by the world’s largest specialists in MIM technologies.

Rachel added: “One thing that has never changed over the years is our company culture, which is hugely important to us. We’re a close-knit team that supports one another.

“We have shared so many highs and lows together, including the loss of my father in 2018, and are proud to keep his legacy alive through everything we do.

“CMG Technologies are continuing to advance and we look forward to plenty more years of innovation and teamwork.”
