The technological capabilities of CMG continue to ‘blow the mind’ of our General Manager, Rob Kirk – who has been full of praise about the team.
Rob joined the business in September 2022 and has been quick to rise through the ranks thanks to his role in improving our operations.
His role sees him work as the go-between for our Directors, Rachel and Phil, and the production floor, helping create a happy and constructive working environment that produces the highest quality products for our clients.
That environment, Rob said, makes CMG such a great place to work.
“CMG are honestly the best company I have ever worked for,” he said. “It’s a nice environment with good people, and all the things you hear about them are absolutely true.
“We all work well as a team – and both Rachel and Phil give me the autonomy I need to make the role my own.
“My job is to be behind the scenes, helping ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. But I get involved in pretty much everything to be honest, I love the variability of the role.
“The technology we have here blows my mind.”
Rob added that despite his many years’ experience – and degree – in engineering, he continues to learn new things every day.
“I sort of fell into the trade, to be honest,” he said. “I left school at 16 and didn’t want to take the academic route, so took up my mum’s recommendation of taking on a factory floor job at a company she worked at in Martlesham.
“If I remember rightly, CMG were a client – but that was back in the day they were called Europlus.
“I became more and more interested the more I learnt about how it all works. I later took on jobs across the region for different organisations, including 16 years at the Port of Felixstowe, where I learnt my leadership skills.
“I’m still learning now. I got my degree in Engineering Management many years ago, but CMG have been kind enough to put me through various courses, such as Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and BSI quality management courses.
“It’s really nice of them to give me these opportunities – it doesn’t just help me and the business, but our clients too.”
Outside of work, Rob is a keen golfer – when not fulfilling his fatherly taxi duties. He proudly follows ITFC and is also a big music lover, having played the drums for several soft rock bands across the county many years ago. Nowadays he sticks to guitar in his own front room!
